Thanks! The terms have varying definitions depending on who’s using them, but I use them this way:
Natural building—Primarily constructed by hand from materials found on or very near the building site with low energy forms of processing. Cob, for example.
Conventional building—Constructed using non-local materials reliant on high energy inputs in processing, transportation, and construction. Drywall, for example.
I have to believe that the true root to the housing crisis is the “divine right of property.” It’s really what’s keeping people in need of housing from having it. Why not address that here in your article? Why stop short of the true cause?
Sharing has an extremely violent and extremely loving history with humanity stories. Whether among our air, land, sea, and the otherwise unseen and unknown, some thing else wants that too, eventually.
This is v important stuff. In the UK atm we have a housing crisis and the only solutions on the table are just build way more private housing (usually single family homes, poorly insulated, tiny windows, gas boilers, done on the cheap). The "build more houses" crew often take aim at environmental regulations like limiting the new housing in a catchment (which are there to help solve our "rivers of shit" problem https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-68665335).
I’m all for this but I think it’s worth talking about whether or not these are mice proof, I think they can chew through cob, and how to mouse proof natural homes
I agree that the housing crisis is political, and not just in the USA but in all countries under neoliberal rule. I'm also a fan of bioregionalism.
Always appreciate your feedback, Diana!
Thanks for your writing! Can you elaborate on the differences between conventional and natural homes? Is the drywall the problem?

Cob is covered by plaster. There are countless natural homes all over the world that don’t have any mice issues.
That’s good to know! That would have been my only hang up, otherwise I’m all aboard
True 😂
Thanks bud!
