Beautiful article, thank you for it. This might come as two weird questions, but I gotta ask:

1 - How do you see the next 2 decades playing out considering our societies current decisions?

2 - What changes would our societies need to do in order to achieve your best case scenario in two decades?

Thank you!

1) The trajectory we’re on will make the next two decades increasingly unstable as the climate parameters that have made human civilization possible shift dramatically. That will apply pressure on every aspect of society and cause breaks & reorganizations where we are accustomed to stability. We should expect quality of life to decline.

2) Broadly, we would need to shift from a high energy to a low energy society in a planned & egalitarian manner. That would require total change; a revolution. There are no insurmountable practical barriers to that happening, but many very difficult political barriers.

Beautifully synthesized thoughts! I teared up in agreement while reading. Looking at the status quo often leaves me with nothing but a dreadful feeling of helplessness, with the way forward towards solutions being systematically obstructed by setting all priorities to profit. The absurdity of it all!

Really appreciate the kind words! It’s really hard living in a world that constantly denies our humanity. But by pulling together to change it, we can find many of the things we’re looking for.

I agree completely. Economies should serve the people, not the other way around. And EcoSocialism is where my mind goes when I think of how to do this.
