Let's get started!
I recently stumbled upon a concoction that makes it far easier to start even the most stubborn seeds. This product is marketed for starting hot pepper seeds, which are notoriously difficult to pop, but I’ve used it on a variety of seeds with low or very slow germination with outstanding results. In fact, I used it on a large quantity of seeds from a native species that typically has a 10-12% germination rate; I got 90%+! I had so many sprouts I didn't know what to do with them all. Anyway, it's an organic mix of saltpeter, which soften hard seed coats, and gibberellic acid, a plant hormone that encourages cell reproduction and growth. It's cheap, safe, and easy to use. You can buy it here.
